Essential oil is obtained by steam distillation from the leaves.
Geranium essential oil is mainly produced on the Island of Reunion, Egypt, and Morocco. Russia has also been listed as a source, but not as often. China is also exporting Geranium oil, but the source of the botanicals is unknown to me at this writing. The Congo, Japan, Central America and Europe have also been mentioned as sources, but only for the botanicals, not the production of the oil.
Our Geranium is from Egypt.
BLENDING, NOTE, SCENT: Geranium is a Middle Note oil. It is thought to blend well with Lavender, Patchouli, Clove, Rose, Neroli, Sandalwood, Jasmine, Juniper, Bergamont and other citrus oils. I have tried it with citrus and had very nice results. I have also had great success blending it with Lavender. Other combinations are currently being tested. As for the scent of Geranium, everyone’s lymbic system is different. The sensation I get is floral, warm and creamy. Some say they smell a hint of rose, I don’t. This is not to say that some Geranium oils don’t have a hint of rose to them. Your origin of the botanicals can make a difference in the final product, and again, everyone’s smell perception is not the same.
